Avalanche warning levels

Before every ski tour, it is worth taking a look at the current avalanche warning level. It provides information about the danger level in the terrain and helps to correctly assess risks and plan tours safely.

The snowpack is generally well consolidated and stable. Avalanches are only triggered by a large additional load in extremely steep terrain and in isolated places. Only small spontaneous avalanches are possible and generally safe touring conditions prevail.

Avalanches can only be triggered if there is a large additional load. The snowpack is only moderately firm on some steep slopes steeper than 30°, but otherwise well consolidated. Extremely steep slopes should be avoided.

The snowpack is only weakly to moderately consolidated on many slopes. Avalanches are possible, especially on steep slopes and with low additional loads. Medium and large avalanches can also be triggered spontaneously.

The snowpack is not stable on many slopes. The snowpack is only weakly consolidated and avalanches are possible even with low additional loads, for example from individual skiers. There are also many spontaneous medium to large avalanches. Ski tours are not recommended.

The snow cover is not stable and only very weakly consolidated. Large avalanches are possible even in moderately steep terrain. Ski tours are not possible at avalanche warning level 5. Find out about the current avalanche situation before every hike at: www.lawine-steiermark.at

Everyone is responsible for their own route selection and assessment of their own experience, ability and alpine dangers when ski touring in the ascent and descent in alpine terrain!

Equipment tips

for your ski tour

Good preparation is crucial for the safety and adventure value of your tour. Make sure you have the right equipment with you.

Important equipment for every ski tour:

  • Avalanche transceiver (avalanche transceiver)
  • Cell phone for emergencies
  • Avalanche shovel
  • Avalanche probe
  • First aid kit
  • Sufficient food and drink
  • Additional clothing to change into

With this basic equipment, you are well prepared for most ski tours in Schladming-Dachstein.

Ski touring pin

With the ski tour pin, every tour is doubly rewarded: with an unforgettable experience on the mountain and the chance to win great prizes.

This is how it works:

  • Complete 4 out of 7 selected ski tours and automatically take part in the competition.
  • Each tour has two checkpoints: Check-in in the valley and Check-in on the mountain. As soon as both have been successfully logged in, you will receive your ski tour pin.
  • Even with a single check-in on a tour, you secure a stage ski tour pin.

At the end of the winter season, attractive prizes will be raffled off among all participants with ski touring pins.
