Tips for an unforgettable mountain experience
Tie your hiking boots, strap on your rucksack - the mountain is calling. The summer season is in the starting blocks and the peaks of the Schladming-Dachstein region are waiting to be conquered. In this blog, we take you along on the final preparations for the upcoming hiking tours. In addition to well-known tips that will be recalled, there are certain "to-dos" to make every hike a very special mountain experience!
Fit for the hike
Exercise in the mountains, in the fresh air and surrounded by a breathtaking panorama ensures that body and mind are brought back into harmony. Nevertheless, we all know it only too well: the faster our strength wanes, the sweatier and more tired we are after the first ascent, the louder our inner bastard makes itself felt, demanding a break. Here are a few short exercises that can be integrated into everyday life so that you can start your next mountain tour in good time:
It's no big secret that the legs literally play a "supporting" role when hiking. Regular squats or lunges not only ensure that the muscles in the legs are trained, but also help to strengthen the stability of the torso at the same time. Good coordination is also required when hiking to prevent falls and stumbling on stony or rooty hiking trails. Ideal exercises to train your sense of balance include balancing or standing on one leg and increasing the intensity by closing your eyes or catching objects.
Equipment must-haves with a difference
Less is sometimes more and yet there are well-known items that you should not do without on mountain tours. These include sufficient drinks, suitable shoes and weatherproof clothing. However, my personal hiking rucksack should definitely not be without a camera. You learn from your mistakes and lapses, so I prefer to play it safe before setting off to make sure the battery is charged and there is enough capacity on the memory card to capture the best shots.
Have you ever heard of the onion look? I also like to use the principle of layering on the mountain. It's better to wear one too many headbands or jackets than to have to abandon a mountain tour because the wind is blowing cold around your ears.
If you don't know your destination, you won't find your way
As we all know, good preparation is the be-all and end-all, and this is especially true for tours in alpine terrain. Before each hiking season, I personally set myself a few new realistic goals that are appropriate for my fitness level. Last year, for example, it was the Goldlacken in the Sattental valley. With each hike and a look at the altitude meters I have already covered, I work my way towards the mountain goals I have set myself.
However, something can happen quickly on the mountain and in an emergency there is no time to google for the right phone number...
- 140 - Alpine emergency number
- 112 - Euro emergency number
With these tips in mind, nothing stands in the way of a unique and eventful mountain experience in summer!
