"Fageralmbahn"
Children's and family paradise gets new gondola lift!
From the 2025/26 winter season, "pleasure skiing" in Schladming Dachstein and Ennspongau will be raised to a new level of quality with the new gondola lift on the Fageralm. Two existing double chairlifts will be replaced by a modern 8-seater cable car. The official ground-breaking ceremony for this major investment took place on June 3, 2025 in the presence of Deputy Governor Stefan Schnöll.
With the new construction of the Fageralmbahn in Forstau, the ski mountain is increasingly establishing itself as a children's and family paradise, not only for local overnight guests, but above all for day visitors from the Enns-Pongau region and the Schladming-Dachstein region.
From the coming winter season, the new 8-seater cable car will pamper and inspire.
The valued ski guests will now be able to reach the sunny, magnificent high plateau in gondola cabins in just 12 minutes, ensuring optimal distribution in the ski area.
In April 2025, the last official hurdle for the project was cleared and the cable car construction permit was issued. After an intensive period of preparation, this beautiful, large and forward-looking generational project can now be implemented in Forstau.
The new cable car not only replaces two double chairlifts, DSB Forstaubahn and DSB Jägerlift, but the mountain station will also be located at a central point on the high plateau at around 1,745 m above sea level, thus achieving optimum distribution in the ski area.
The bottom station of the new lift is at the same location, with optimal access to the existing provincial road, and a new middle station on both sides rounds off the offer.
What makes this investment so special?
This gondola lift not only brings more comfort and modern technology to the Fageralm - it also tells a story of sustainability. This cable car was already in use at the Grossarl mountain railroads and is now being rebuilt in an environmentally friendly and responsible manner. In this way, a connection between innovation and nature - in the spirit of our mountain region - is being created.
The lift was taken over in the best possible condition. The majority of the mechanical system components, such as the bottom station, top station, supports, roller batteries and travel equipment can be used and deployed; the new system will be supplemented by 13 additional supports, 13 new travel equipment, a complete middle station, new control system, motor, gearbox and rope.
With a transport capacity of 1,160 passengers per hour, guests are transported to the sunny high plateau in just around 12 minutes. The Doppelmayr cable car is equipped with 55 gondola cabins. The valley station is located at 935 m and the mountain station at 1745 m above sea level.
The cost of the investment is around 12.5 million euros.
Official ground-breaking ceremony on June 3, 2025
The symbolic ground-breaking ceremony was held on June 3, 2025 as part of an atmospheric ground-breaking ceremony. Renowned representatives from politics, business, landowners and companies attended the ceremony.
"I would like to say a big THANK YOU to ALL the partners involved. The new "Fageralmbahn" will strengthen our company, the Schladming Dachstein tourism region and the Enns-Pongau region as a winter tourism magnet and, above all, qualitatively expand and improve the ski offer for children and families. Together with all partners, this will be another important step in the history of Reiteralm Bergbahnen, says a visibly pleased and proud Managing Director of Reiteralm Bergbahnen, Daniel Berchthaller.
