House in the Enns Valley A journey through the winter sports history of the oldest village in the upper Enns Valley
Haus im Ennstal is not only the oldest village in the upper Enns Valley. Winter sports history was also written here and pioneering work was done for its development in the Schladming-Dachstein region. In this blog post, you can find out more about the beginnings of skiing at Hauser Kaibling:
A milestone in cable car history
In 1949, a (convertible) gondola lift made its maiden voyage on the Hauser Kaibling. This was the first gondola lift in the Schladming-Dachstein region to go into operation. In the 1960s, this gondola was replaced by the Schladminger Tauern cable car, which still transports guests to mountain adventures in both summer and winter.
Hauser-born Helmut Höflehner also made skiing history. The downhill specialist won ten races in the World Cup and the Downhill World Cup in the 1984/85 and 1989/90 seasons. He now runs the Höfi-Express lifts on the Hauser Kaibling together with his family.
Racing action on the Hauser Kaibling
Did you know that the world's best ski racers have fought for every hundredth of a second on the Hauser Kaibling? The first Krummholz race took place in February 1914. From then on, regular races followed. The highlight was the 1982 Alpine World Ski Championships, where Hauser Kaibling and the Planai served as the venue for the hunt for gold, silver and bronze. The following year, a women's World Cup race was held for the first time, which was repeated in 2001, 2004 and most recently in 2010.
