Hans Knauß - An ambassador with heart and a sense of home
What does home mean to you? Maybe it's the place where you made your first turns in the snow? Or the place where the fresh mountain air is just as much a part of it as the smell of local delicacies and where you can simply feel the warmth of togetherness. For Hans Knauß, Schladming-Dachstein is all of these things. In this blog, you can find out why he not only loves his homeland, but also represents it wholeheartedly as a brand ambassador:
Can you imagine living where others go on vacation and having the mountains on your doorstep every day? For Hans Knauß, this is a reality. Growing up on the Fastenberg, he always had the slopes of the Planai in view and soon had them under his feet: "My father was the lift attendant at the Märchenwiesen lift," says the former ski racer. "I spent the whole day there - together with friends and family. Those are carefree childhood memories & pure freedom!"
The foundations for his skiing career were also laid here. What does it take to become a successful ski racer? Talent, discipline and a big childhood dream? For Hans, it was a moment during the 1982 World Ski Championships in Schladming that tipped the scales: "I was a flagman back then - right in the middle of the action. A dream was born. From that day on, all I wanted to do was become a racing driver."
This dream later became reality. Hans Knauß celebrated seven World Cup victories over the course of his career. Today you probably know him as an ORF ski expert. He comments on and analyzes the races with his wit and expertise. Since 2021, he has also been showing the most beautiful sides of our country in the ORF program "Österreich vom Feinsten". And yet he is always drawn back home. To Schladming. Where his roots lie. Where he recharges his batteries.
Hans Knauß continues to live out his passion for sport with enthusiasm. Be it skiing in winter or mountain biking and hiking in summer. The Schladming-Dachstein region offers him countless opportunities for this and he also enjoys culinary delights. He would also like to convey this enthusiasm to the outside worldas a testimonial for the FürDich Club. It's not just the landscape that makes his home region so special for him, but above all the people: "People know each other here - and people help each other here."
