3 tips for choosing your hiking boots So that the shoe doesn't pinch...

Tie your hiking boots and off you go! Summer has arrived in the Schladming-Dachstein region and the 2023 hiking season is in full swing. Have you often wondered what you should look out for when choosing the right hiking boots? In this blog post, you'll find three tips to help you choose the right shoes:

The mountain boot - it is an essential criterion for how we remember a mountain experience. The most impressive mountain panorama can open up in front of you and the hut owner can serve you the best snack for refreshment, but if your boots literally pinch and painful blisters form, it is difficult to enjoy the mountain experience.

Tip number 1: Get used to your footwear!

Just as every pair of skis or mountain bike can be ridden differently, every boot has its own characteristics. For this reason, before you set off on your first longer tour with your new mountain boot, you should get used to the equipment and break the boot in over shorter distances.

Tip number 2: Trail condition as a decision criterion!

What applies to the preparation of the hiking tour itself also applies to the choice of footwear: correct planning is the be-all and end-all. While on the one hand you should make sure that you choose a shoe that fits properly, on the other hand it is just as important that the tour suits the type of shoe. If you are hiking in alpine and high alpine terrain, such as along the glacier hike from the Dachstein to the Guttenberghaus, where snow fields as well as scree and gravel characterize the trail, mountain boots with a protective shaft are particularly important.

Tip number 3: It depends on the overall situation!

Many routes can also be covered in low shoes. However, if you are walking on a forest path in low shoes with heavy luggage, for example, a slight unevenness can be dangerous as you can easily lose your balance. In the end, it always depends on the overall situation.

But what types of hiking boots are there?

LOWA distinguishes between the following categories, for example: MOUNTAINEERING, TREKKING, ALL TERRAIN CLASSIC, ALL TERRAIN SPORT, EVERYDAY and COLD WEATHER BOOTS. The former are ideal for alpine tours, combined terrain and challenging via ferratas. While the trekking models are designed for demanding hikes and multi-day tours off the beaten track, the All-Terrain Sport collection offers a multifunctional shoe that is suitable for a variety of outdoor activities.

Which shoe do you prefer to be out and about in?
